AI:Underground Teams Up with UMiami for Hip-Hop Commission

AI:Underground is helping bring AI music creators into a University of Miami classroom.

The Discord community has partnered with Dr. Simon Howard’s University of Miami course, Psych & Flow: The Psychology of Hip-Hop, to build a curated library of original hip-hop instrumentals for student capstone projects this fall. The course explores hip-hop through psychology, identity, culture, and human behavior, with students creating original projects around those themes.

Now, AI:U is opening that effort to creators.

The call is being framed as a commission, not a contest. AI:U is seeking beats, instrumentals, grooves, textures, and sonic foundations that students can draw from as they build their projects. All hip-hop styles are welcome, including Trap, Boom Bap, East Coast, West Coast, Drill, UK Drill, Latin Trap, Lo-Fi Hip-Hop, Melodic Hip-Hop, Chopped & Screwed, and hybrid approaches.

Creators may submit one track to start, with community feedback helping surface standout submissions through ❤️ reactions. Finalists will be selected from the first round, and additional tracks may be requested from those creators.

Initial submissions must include a Suno link. Final selected works will require instrumental masters and stems. Creators retain ownership and writing credit.

Submissions close Aug. 1 in AIU’s #psych-and-flow channel.
